A different kind of lighting fundamentals, of fering learning through hands-on experience. This "immersion-type" course allows participants
to explore concepts such as illuminance and luminance by measuring and experiencing these characteristics of lighting, along with developing
a qualitative feel for differences in lighting quantities. Attendees will gain an understanding of the science of light, lighting measurement and
vocabulary, human vision, perception, and color, and a foundation for understanding lamps and luminaires, lighting design criteria and other
lighting topics. In this course, you will deve lop a sound understanding of lighting fundamentals, a qualitative feel for lighting characteristics
and the differences in lighting quantities, and an appreciation of the importance of understanding lighting characteristics and components in the
lighting design process.
LEVEL: Basic
COST: $450.00/$500.00

This course will cover a broad array of important topics at the intermediate level
and is designed for those with some lighting education (e.g. IESNA ED-100 or previous
work in lighting) and want to raise their level of understanding. The major emphasis
will be on the application of theory and principles using case studies. The team of instructors
will provide varying points of view on lighting and their relation to lighting applications.
The topics will include a review of fundamentals, vision, light sources, photometry, luminaries
and optics, controls, sustainable design, light and health, design, and the business
of lighting. The objectives for this course are to clarify, augment and raise the level of
understanding of lighting fundamentals, to teach the technologies of lighting at the level
sufficient to support professional practice and to understand the application of lighting
at the level sufficient to support professional practice. The presentation will be a mix of
lecture, in-session exercises and participatory experiences.

This institute describes in detail how light and architecture interact and teaches how
architectural surfaces acquire their brightness and color. The presenter will provide an
insight on how to change architecture or lighting equipment to achieve the desired
result and how modern computer programs work. This course describes in the detail
how light and architecture interact and teaches how architectural surfaces acquire
their brightness and color. The presenter will provide an insight on how to change
architecture or lighting equipment to achieve the desired result and how modern compute r
programs work. Attendees will be taught through examples how to analyze a complicated
space, understand how electric and day light moves through space, see the role surface
size, orientation, and reflectance play by using provided complete system of graphics-
based computer pro g rams; predict footcandles and produce computer renderings of rooms,
translate interaction of light and architecture into simple mathematics, interpret mathematical
results into spatial understating of space, and determine the illuminance, luminance,
and color potentials of a space. Attendees will have use of a provided (to keep) graphics-
based light and architecture computer program.
Pre-requisites: Knowledge of mathematics at level of algebra. Bring your own PC laptop with
Windows Operating System. All calculations will be performed with provided software.

the use of both new and current features of the AGI32 calculation and visualization software .
Intended for new and experienced users alike, this course will illustrate the best practices for efficient workflow when integrating AGI32 into your
design process; including the fundamental concepts of electric and daylighting calculations through a variety of lighting design applications, and
exciting ways to present your results, including still images, dynamic VRML output and
sophisticated page layouts.
Pre-requisites: Bring your own laptop computer [Windows 2000 or XP preferred]. AGI32 education version software will be provided prior to
the course. Attendee should be familiar with basic luminaire photometry and lighting concepts. Please visit the following link,

This two day, in-depth Institute course will teach attendees how to properly model all
levels of architectural spaces to accurately predict light levels and to pro duce photometrically
accurate, photo-realistic renderings. Software will be provided to give attendees
a hands-on approach to using Lumen Designer 2004 software based on real lighting
projects. Key topics will include integrating with CAD files, modeling advanced 3D geometry,
daylighting analysis, specifying real world materials, selecting lighting products, and
the creation of realistic architectural renderings. Atendees will leave with a greater understanding
of how lighting software works and how to accurately model any architectural space efficiently.
Pre-requisites: Bring your own laptop computer [Windows 2000 or XP preferred].
Lumin Designer education version software will be provided prior to the course. Attendee
should be familiar with basic luminaire photometry and lighting concepts. Experience with lighting software and/or AutoCAD is helpful but not required.
