WRT is preparing a comprehensive master plan for the Anacostia River and adjoining urban lands, an area totaling more than 2,800 acres in combined private and public ownership within the District of Columbia. WRT is defining the projectís environmental agenda and open space framework and developing open space design guidelines for the planning area as well as specific plans for the 800-acre Anacostia Park and a new river trail stretching over 5 miles from Poplar Point to the National Arboretum. WRT is directly involved with interest groups and stakeholders in an extensive public involvement campaign aimed at realizing a design consensus among neighborhood-specific recreation needs, national civic interests, watershed health, and district and federal mandates.
