Funded in part by the Kellogg Foundation, this new 50,000-SF facility for senior citizens was developed in response to community concern about the migration of its older citizens to cities offering them greater services. The new senior activity center, one of the largest in the nation, contains a swimming pool, library, and dining hall. Our work included the analysis and selection of a site (a public square within walking distance of downtown) as well as the design of the new building and landscape. Passive strolling gardens and greens were designed to reflect solar orientation, and a sun terrace was installed as an outdoor dining and gathering space.
