WRT's revitalization plan and its ongoing implementation have transformed this port neighborhood from a marginal
community into one of promise. The plan emphasizes the re-integration of the neighborhood and the waterfront, now
separated by public housing and vacant property, by reconnecting neighborhood streets and constructing a new
community center within the expanded waterfront park. Fueled by public and private partnerships (and bolstered
with a $28 million HOPE VI grant), this comprehensive redevelopment effort includes replacement of 600 units of
public housing with new construction of 300 on-site detached and attached townhouse-style apartments and another
300 units of rental and for-sale housing in the neighborhood. WRT was the planner and design architect for
the project.
