In conjunction with the Chicago Housing Authority and their developers, WRT led a four-month participatory planning
process to prepare a HUD HOPE VI application. The plan's overriding goal is to provide a democratic and sustainable
environment for residents, enriching their opportunities by maximizing the degree of choice available to them.
The plan proposes to replace one of the nation's worst examples of public high-rise housing with a new pedestrian,
mixed-use, mixed-income neighborhood at a scale and character far more compatible with its urban context.
In addition to the 2,388 new housing units, the plan also calls for the revitalization of surrounding neighborhoods,
including the addition of seven new community facilities and the development of new retail and commercial uses to be
implemented in three phases.
