WRT is preparing the General Management Plan (GMP) for Anacostia Park, a
unit of the National Park Service's National Capital Parks East.
Encompassing 1,215 acres of waterfront land, Anacostia Park is one of the
major greenways in the nation's capital. Managers of the park face
tremendous challenges typical of urban park systems. The new GMP will
provide the framework to direct park management activities for the next 20
years, defining resource management strategies, park uses, and the range of
visitor experiences. A major emphasis of the GMP is integration of the
diverse planning and environmental restoration efforts aimed at revitalizing
Washington's waterfront, celebrating national heritage, enhancing recreation
opportunities, and improving water quality.
