Nashville marked the 100th anniversary of its park system in 2001. In recognition of this milestone, and to guide
system management well into the future, the Metropolitan Government commissioned WRT to prepare the city and
county's first-ever Parks and Greenways Master Plan. The recommendations of the plan were developed through extensive
public input, an assessment of existing conditions, and a review of demographic projections as well as recreation
trends. For the next 20 years, the master plan will guide how the community maintains its park resources and how it
plans and designs new parks, greenways, athletic activities, cultural activities, and recreational programs.
