Once a small agricultural settlement on the east end of Long Island, the Village of East Hampton today is struggling to
retain its village character. The allure of the Hamptons has attracted wealthy second homeowners and seasonal visitors
to the area in growing numbers, dramatically raising property values, displacing year-round residents, bringing in
high-end commercial uses that do not serve local residents, and increasing traffic. Through the comprehensive planning
process village residents voiced their concerns regarding the changing character of their community. With WRT's assistance,
the village developed its first comprehensive plan, identifying the issues facing the community, articulating a shared
vision for the future, and reaching consensus on the actions needed.
