Consisting of 113 miles of low-lying islands with a combined area of approximately 100 square miles, and more than 200
additional offshore islands, the Florida Keys is a rich and fragile ecosystem that is subject to intense development
pressure. WRT was the land use planner for this multidisciplinary effort to prepare the state-mandated Florida Keys
Carrying Capacity Study. The study with its accompanying analysis model evaluates the ecosystem_s ability to withstand
the impacts of future land use change and provides a tool for local, regional, and state planners to make related policy
recommendations. The project is currently undergoing final peer review by the National Academy of Science.
