The Schuylkill River Valley National Heritage Area spans five counties in eastern Pennsylvania, extending from metropolitan Philadelphia to the anthracite coal area of Schuylkill County. WRT's management plan for this 1,740-square-mile region lays out a comprehensive set of strategies to achieve goals related to historic and natural resource preservation, public education and interpretation, outdoor recreation, community revitalization, and heritage tourism. The plan also provides direction for plan implementation, including definition of the role of the heritage area management organization (Schuylkill River Greenway Association), establishment of criteria for decision making, identification of priority action programs, and measures to monitor success in achieving the plan goals.
