This award-winning pedestrian plaza knits together an urban neighborhood and is a source of community pride.
The project is an outgrowth and keystone of WRTs redevelopment plan for the area, which aims to provide
access to the Miami Metrorail and reconnect the neighborhood to its surroundings. Constructed of rustic
terrazzo in vibrant colors and patterns suggestive of West African Kente cloth, the plaza is punctuated with
clusters of seating drums and commemorative bronze medallions documenting historic events within the Overtown
Community.
Winner of a national ASLA Merit Award and a Design for Transportation Merit Award from the US Department of
Transportation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
