During the 1970s, public redevelopment substantially cleared the waterfront land and guided new development in the nine
communities along the Hudson Rivers west shore (opposite Manhattan). Today most of the finger piers have been removed
and the vision of a continuous 18-mile walkway from Bayonne and Liberty State Park in Jersey City to the George
Washington Bridge is being substantially realized. WRTs plan and design guidelines ensure public access to the waterfront
as development proceeds, since adherence is a condition for waterfront development permit approval. As planner and
landscape architect, the firm has been responsible for the completion of over 3.5 miles of the walkway.
