Working as urban designers and planners with a team of local consultants, WRT prepared a master plan for a 2-mile redevelopment
corridor along the Mississippi River, upstream of downtown Minneapolis. The project was developed for the Minneapolis Park Board and
involved multiple local, state, and federal agencies.
Within the 500-acre redevelopment area, the plan envisions over 2,400 residential units, 200,000 square feet of waterfront-oriented
commercial and entertainment uses, live-work lofts, light manufacturing, an amphitheater, and the rehabilitation of a historic
brewery into a state-of-the-art conference center. The plan also proposes the continuation of Minneapolis' famed river parkway and
a comprehensive system of paths along the riverfront.
The project won a Place Planning award in 2001 from the Environmental Design Research Association and was recognized with
an Honor Award by the Waterfront Center in 2000.
