This 50-unit courtyard housing design works within the constraints of the HUD 202 program to provide a true community for low-income seniors. Two buildings form a garden courtyard that is linked to a generous community room and lobby. The building containing the main public rooms houses frail elderly. Ambulatory elderly who benefit from daily walking live across the court. The design is based upon a careful reading of literature on elderly housing, observation of successful and unsuccessful projects, and extensive conversation and review with geriatricians.
