Understanding the requirements of each client and the aspirations of the institution are essential to creating a sense of place that fulfills architecture’s symbolic importance. Our institutional work includes dormitory buildings for Stanford University, campus planning for UC Berkeley and UC San Diego, a medical office building for Kaiser in downtown San Rafael, and a serene funeral chapel in Houston. Each of our projects reflects our careful attention to the institution’s traditions and rituals as well as to the particular location, climate and local building traditions.
