The Ornstein-Schatz residence is a 3,700-SF, 2-bedroom home with an indoor swimming pool. It is located on a hillside
outside of town and faces south to Mount Tamalpias. The plan gives each of the rooms a south view to the mountain,
and a continuous south-facing porch with a metal brise-soleil that modifies the sunlight. The poolroom is passively cooled
and heated and has back-up mechanical systems for heating, cooling, and dehumidification. As an extension of the
owner’s career interests as an optomological surgeon and photographer, the house becomes an exploration of the
poetics of daylight.
The house was published in 'Architectural Digest.'
